Joana Costa graduated in Bioengineering from the University of Porto (Portugal) with a specialization in Molecular Biotechnology. In 2015, she joined the MICACT european network (micact.eu) as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN fellow to work on the integration of the EAP (Electroactive Polymers) technology in tissue engineering applications. During this period, she pursued her PhD studies with University of Pisa and the company IVTech.
Currently, Joana is a post-doc researcher of the Centro E. Piaggio of the University of Pisa, carrying on research on the development of more realistic in vitro models, focusing mainly on the model of the intestinal mucosa.
Fields of interest: Tissue and Cell Engineering, Biofabrication, Bioreactors design, Bioprinting, Alternatives for animal experimentation.
